My name is Matthew O'Brien and I am currently in the first year of my PhD at UCD studying African American history. I am commencing a tutoring position in the UCD school of history from September 2017 onwards. I graduated from UCD in 2014 with an MA in History (GPA 3.67), achieving a first-class honour for my dissertation that focused on the political, cultural and revolutionary elements of the Black Power Movement. My undergraduate degree is in English literature and media studies, and I achieved a 2.1 for the degree overall and a 2.1 for a thesis on the portrayal of Shakespearean protagonists through film. My strengths lie in the area of preparation and structuring for large bodies of work such dissertations and general essays. While my current interests American history, I have a diverse academic background with a proven track record to achieve high grades.
